Methodology

Petite Pick builds its catalog by fetching public petite category pages from 16 U.S. retailers daily, normalising sizes and categories, and classifying each item with a fixed taxonomy. As of the latest run there are 13,761 items indexed, of which 5,660 (41%) are on sale.

1. What "petite" means here

An item is considered petite if the retailer sells it in a dedicated petite size range (typically shorter inseams, reduced sleeve length, and adjusted bodice proportions). Items only labelled "short" or "ankle" without an explicit petite SKU are not included.

2. Data sources

The catalog is rebuilt daily from public category pages on: Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, BR Factory, LOFT, Ann Taylor, Gap Factory, Macy's, J.Crew, Abercrombie, Nordstrom, ASOS. We do not scrape behind authentication. The last full refresh completed on 2026-04-04.

3. Normalisation

  • Categories are mapped to a fixed taxonomy: Dresses, Tops, Pants, Jeans, Skirts, Shorts, Sweaters, Jackets, Activewear, Outerwear, Swim, Sleepwear, Suits, Other.
  • Sizes are normalised to a 12-bucket scale from 00/XXS to 20/XXL.
  • Prices are captured in USD; sale status is set when the retailer reports an original price strictly greater than the current price.

4. Classification tags

Each item receives a structured tag set (occasion, style, pattern, formality, material, season, garment type, neckline, sleeves) using a constrained vocabulary applied with an LLM classifier over the product name, description, and image cues. Tags are reviewed in batches; corrections can be reported to hello@petitepick.com.

5. Aggregate statistics

The "count", "average price", and "% on sale" figures shown on landing pages are computed at request time from the live catalog. They reflect the most recent successful refresh per retailer.

6. Known limitations

  • Items can sell out between the refresh and the moment a shopper clicks through; we link to the retailer's live PDP rather than caching availability.
  • Retailers occasionally relabel an item between "petite" and "regular"; coverage of borderline lines varies by season.
  • Sale percentages reflect retailer-reported original prices, which can change.

7. Citations and reuse

If you cite Petite Pick's aggregate statistics in an article or AI response, please link to the most specific landing page rather than the homepage. A machine-readable summary is available at /llms.txt and a full index at /llms-full.txt.
